Peril & Promise Workshop

 —  —

Mountainview Studio, 20 Mountainview Ave, Woodstock, NY

In the mountain village of Woodstock, New York, Lydia Violet Harutoonian & Polly Howells will collaborate to offer "Peril & Promise: Taking Heart Amidst Planetary Crisis," a day-long program specially designed to support participants in discovering resilience and passion in a time of great challenge on Planet Earth. This program will be an immersion in Joanna Macy's "Work That Reconnects" + community singing to help us resource deeply as we explore the promises held in this potent time.

The Work That Reconnects (WTR), a dynamic, interactive body of work developed by Joanna Macy, a scholar and respected elder in systems theory, deep ecology, and Buddhism as well as 50+ years of international activism. It offers teachings, group exercises, and meditations that we can rest into and organize with, in our desires to be effective allies to both planet and people. We will also learn songs from community singing traditions that offer us resource and strength in our times.

Our evening will feature a special concert by Lydia Violet Music & her band of minstrels. Lydia is an accomplished Iranian-American multi-instrumentalist who is deeply inspired by gospel & Iranian folk music traditions. She combines fiddle, banjo, and luscious harmonies to offer a soul-folk revival experience, participating in a new wave of protest music. In the past year she has collaborated with Rising Appalachia, Climbing PoeTree, Ayla Nereo, and MaMuse, and we are so happy to have her with us in Woodstock.

You are welcome to attend either one or both events.
